Zulema Hechavarria Blanco

Flutist , bandleader , composer , percussionist , vocalist and choreographe.

Born in Santiago de Cuba the 19 December 1973 , graduated in 1999 at the Instituto Superior de Artes in Havana ( Cuba ) ,
and in 2000 she started to study at the Royal Conservatory in Antwerp ( Belgium ) , where she got her Master Degree in
Music as a flutist

She has played in different musical projects , defending Cuban and universal music , participating in different international
platforms , and being a member of the award-winning group Zap Mama , Grammy Awards nominee.

In Cuba she was a student of the prestigious flute masters : Alberto Corrales , Richard Egues y Joaquin Oliveros
and in Belgium of Aldo Baerten first flute player at the Antwerp Philharmonic and Johan Rijcken , master teacher
of the Royal Conservatory in Antwerp.
In 2010 , Zulema started with great success her first female orchestra ZuleMax.

12 women from different European nationalities , graduated from the jazz department at the conservatories of Antwerp ,
Brussels , Amsterdam and Rotterdam.

ZuleMax has participated successfully on international festivals in Norway , Germany , Switzerland , The Netherlands ,
France and Belgium.

Prestigious festivals like the Montreux Jazz festival ( Switzerland ) ,
Mjazz festival , Breda Jazz festival , Jazz in Duketown ( The Netherlands ) ,
Brussels Jazz Maraton , Couleur Cafe , Dranouter ( Belgium ) ,
Jazz Summer Night festival ( Germany ) ,
Festival des Musiques Epicèes ( France ) ,
among other festivals in these countries.

With ZuleMax , Zulema wants the woman on the musical foreground , and all this on the Cuban rhythms of the chachacha ,
guaguanco , mambo and salsa.

Add a dose of Caribbean humor to it and you have the perfect cocktail for a steamy concert.

ZuleMax , an all female latin band with the rich sound of authentic Cuban salsa.

Unique in Europe.
In 2014 they released their debut album Zulemax llegó.
